Vacancy Summary:
University Hospital Sharjah is seeking an experienced charge nurse for NICU department with:

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as charge nurse in related clinical area
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certificates are required.

* Preference is given to UAE Nationals.
Job Description:

Reports to: Unit Manager then Supervisor & Assistant Director of Nursing then Director of Nursing
Responsible for: Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistances & Technicians
Internal Liaises with other Clinical unit staff , Infection Control, Q,I Non Clinical, Support Services Departments staff
External Liaises with N/A

Provides Leadership in the absence of the Unit Manger Assists in the provision of safe quality ethical nursing care in accordance with the hospital and international standards utilizing evidence based nursing practice.
Provides professional nursing care for patients in assigned units

• Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital - Sharjah (STH)
• Complies with all UHS policies and procedures and fire regulations
• Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
• Participates in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas
• Takes charge of the Unit in the absence of the Unit Manager
• Adapts to changing work situations by adjusting staff assignment and/or seeking assistance from the Unit Manager.
• Act as Role Model and mentor/preceptor and orients for to new staff.
• Facilitates team processes by participating actively, effectively, efficiently and in ways that respect the needs and contributions of others.
• Assumes responsibility for day-to-daywork and completes tasks as allocated
• Inspires, motivates and guides others toward goal accomplishment.
• Works cooperatively with fellow team members by sharing information and resources.
• Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
• Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
• Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
• Monitors the condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
• Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Documents initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Assists attending physicians and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.
• Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
• Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment
• Participate in the provision of a safe and positive workplace by enhancing occupational health and safety requirements, as well as monitoring the operations and continuous improvement of the safety management system
• Attends assigned committee and meetings to ensure Infection Control issues are addressed as a member/chairperson
• Recognize, accept and support individuals from all different cultural backgrounds
• Will retain all necessary registration/license requirements
• Self development participate in internal orientation, mandatory ,ongoing education programs Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current knowledge base
• Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated
• The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract

Required Graduate of an accredited school of nursing from Middle East, India, and Philippines holding a Bachelors Degree in Nursing 3/4 yr course
Diploma of Nursing 3yr Course
3 yrs post graduate experience as a team leader or equivalent
Desirable BLS certificate,
Preceptor or Management certificate

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with a Professional Organization in Middle East, India, and Philippines
Within three months of employment
• UAE Ministry of Health License
• Member of the UAE Nursing Association
• BLS certificate
• 4 years post graduate experience
• 3 years previous oversees experience
• 3 yrs post experience as a team leader or equivalent
• Participated in Preceptees programs
• previous experience in a commissioning environment
• previous experience of working in International accredited hospital
• Have current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice.
• Demonstrate proven leadership qualities and ability in collaborating with peers & colleagues
• Able work in, a diverse multi-cultural environment
• Able to adapt to organization and environmental changes
• Basic data management & analytical skills
• Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English ,spoken Arabic skills desirable
• Participated in Preceptors/Education programs
